THE ONE THING
The market is entering a week where the rate decision is not the whole story. A Fed move can be absorbed if the projections reinforce a gradual path, but a higher-for-longer signal would expose how much equity leadership depends on stable discount rates. The useful distinction for clients is not simply whether policy moves, but whether rates and breadth confirm the same narrative.

NEXT BIG NUMBER
Wednesday’s FOMC decision is the week’s fulcrum. One calendar source expects a 25-basis-point hike to 4.00%, while another cites roughly 85% odds of a move into a 3.75%-4.00% range. Retail sales arrive the same day, with July’s prior reading at -0.6%, so stronger demand paired with a firm policy path would be a very different signal from soft demand and a patient Fed.
ADVISOR TIP OF THE DAY
Give clients a two-part script: the policy decision matters, but the projections matter more for the path. Then ask whether their plan still works if cash remains attractive and long-duration assets stay sensitive to rates.
